Yujing Ma is a video/media artist and independent filmmaker whose work explores the complex relationship between media fragments, human, and non-human existence in urban environment. She is particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches that incorporate multi-perspective visual, aural, and textual elements. Beyond her media art practices, she is engaged in research within screen cultures and cinema studies, archiving, and cultural heritage.
She holds a BFA in Film, Video, New Media, and Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During her undergraduate studies, she explores the in-betweenness and the boundaries of reality and fictionality through the fusion of analog and digital production techniques and aesthetics, as well as the reliability and uncertainty of visuals and imagination.
Currently, she works as a research assistant within the Materialities Research Group led by Enza Migliore and the Sound Studies Group led by Marcel Sagesser, working on collaborative projects, A Grain Of, Future Archeology, and Flowing Sound. These projects has further deepened her engagement with multidisciplinary art and design.
